Sometimes there's just not enough hours in the day, so I will get the features I wanted to post today up on the site tomorrow before we roll out our predictions and more on Wednesday.
I hope you enjoy the new alumni page, and I've already gotten a couple updates and added those, so thanks to those readers and coaches. The winner for "Best Picture in a Profile'' on his college's website is Raritan graduate Bill Kvalheim, who is now a wide receiver at Kean University. That's a haircut all right. Absolutely awesome.
The most puzzling picture has to be that of Manasquan graduate Todd Rinaldo at Bucknell. I remember covering Rinaldo in high school, and if I'm not mistaken, he's big and white. Not small and black.
Also, if anyone wants to send me any prep school/junior college updates, feel free. Last season's DigitalSports Defensive Player of the Year, Toms River North linebacker Zach Kane, is now at Milford Academy where he is supposed to play this fall before moving on to Miami, which was his original destination before an off-the-field incident. Former Howell standout Ryan McGuinness played at Milford two years ago before moving on to New Hampshire.
Point Beach's Shane Ferguson is playing at wideout up at Bridgton Academy in Maine (that's him in the teaser photo for this story), and Bridgton beat Husson 36-12 in its opener. Bridgton, by the way, is where former Raritan basketball standout Qa'rraan Calhoun played for a year before heading to St. John's. He is now at the University of Houston.
The best team nickname I came across while compiling the page was at McDaniel College, whose team name is the Green Terror. I guess I will have to re-name that unidentified meat in the back of my refrigerator now.
If you haven't checked out the game that former Brick quarterback Bill Winters turned in against The College of New Jersey, you need to click here for those details. What a night for a quarterback who has really improved from his time at Brick to now being the starter at FDU-Florham.
There also has been a key schedule change heading into the regular season - Long Branch will now christen its new artificial turf field and play its first home game since 2003 on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. The game against Red Bank Catholic was originally scheduled for Friday night of that week.
One last quick note - add Marlboro running back E.J. Tucker to the list of potential Division I-A recruits in the Shore this year, as he has received an offer from Army, according to Mustangs coach Derek Sininsky.
