Well, I am officially sunburned only two days into my preseason camp road trip, but I still can't deny that the weather has been beautiful. However, it was funny that I had one coach actually complaining that it was too nice and not hot enough for him to find out who was really in shape and really committed to the team.
I will have updates on six or so camps coming up on Thursday afternoon in between another busy day of touring the Shore, so check back for that. I will have news on Raritan, Holmdel, St. John Vianney, Keyport, Asbury Park and Manasquan with more to follow.
I spoke to Middletown North coach Joe Trezza, and he said that the Lions are currently scheduled to play all of their home games at Middletown South while renovations to their turf field are done this season.
"The kids are just excited for the season and ready to play, which is what we are focused on,'' Trezza said about the field change.
Trezza is a Middletown South graduate and a former coach for the Eagles, and he once again will be on his old home field because of problems with the new turf field at North that had to be addressed.

In other news, Holmdel has lost one of its top returners this season, senior fullback/linebacker Kenny Laplante, who was a standout on last year's National Division championship squad. He suffered a season-ending ACL tear along in his left knee and will have surgery on Thursday in Toms River. I'll have more on this story on Thursday, but it's just a really frustrating incident for a good kid and one of the few returning starters on a Holmdel team that only returns three other starters total. I wish Laplante a swift recovery.
