In a matchup between two undefeated powerhouse teams, Bethesda Chevy Chase's gymnastics team proved that they are on the right path to securing a third consecutive state title.

B-CC (5-0) remained undefeated and was led by defending state all-round champion Ebony Walters who won the vault (9.65), balance beam (9.65) and floor (9.5) competitions but finished second in the all-around category by .15 points to Blake's Nicole Williams. Walters has been splitting her time this season between B-CC's team and her club team where she performs different skills for each team. B-CC was admittedly a little sloppy during the meet but was still able to pull out a 170.15-151.15 victory over the Bengals (2-1).

"It wasn't one of our best meets but we still did okay," Walters said. "We just work hard and do the best we can. We don't really worry about losing to to stay motivated we stay ahead of the game and work hard every day."

"We put in some new skills that some of the girls have been working on and it wasn't our best meet by any stretch but we're getting our skills in and hopefully we can pull it together but the county meet," B-CC coach Dana Creager said. "We had a lot of falls today so we need to work on that and make sure we have consistent routines."

The Barons were without another of their top competitors in junior Whitney Boross who sat out due to illness and have had their entire team available for only one tri-meet so far this season. Without Boross, other gymnasts had to step up and help Walters with the scoring. Julie Seigel, Steph Golob and Lydia Marks each earned fourth, fifth and sixth place finishes respectively in the all-around competition.

"It's not like a field sport where you can practice defense or something," Creager said. "It's really just concentrating on your routine and having the best meet that you can."

Williams led the way for the Bengals as she wn the uneven bars competition with a score of 9.55. She also finished second in the vault and floor and third on the balance beam to claim first in the all-around.

"She did awesome," Blake coach Laura Parsons said. "She just nailed her routines. Her bar routine was probably the best I've ever seen."

Monika Looney finished in third place in the all-around competition as well for Blake.
