Students, parents, faculty and fans traveled to Endicott College in Beverly, MA to cheer on the boys' basketball team as the Lions looked to defend their NEPSAC Class C title. The Lions beat a tough squad from Holderness, 86-53, demonstrating remarkable depth and outstanding teamwork. Erik Murphy '09 was named the game's Most Valuable Player. The Bulls from Holderness School entered the tournament seeded #7 having upset both #2 seed Lawrence Academy 72-67 in the quarterfinals; and #3 Noble & Greenough School 58-51 in the semifinals, en route to the championship game. Holderness fought hard until the final buzzer, but the systematic offense and tenacious defense of the Lions wore down the Bulls, as the Lions won their second Class C championship in as many years. The Lions and Bulls battled hard from the opening tip off, as play went back and forth for the entire first half. Ultimately, Holderness succumbed to the constant pressure of the talented Lion offense, as St. Mark's took a commanding lead into the second half. The Lions dominated play in the second half, maintaining their solid lead throughout. Erik Murphy '09 was named the game's Most Valuable Player with 18 points on the day. Teammates Nate Lubick '10 (15 points), Melsahn Basabe '10 (14 points), Dave Johnson '09 (11 points, 12 assists), and Russ Braithwaite '09 (8 points) also contributed strong performances, while Alex Murphy '12 (13 points) was a solid contributor off the bench.

Coach David Lubick remarked after the game, "I am so proud of each and every member of this team. They worked hard all season and they really deserve this great moment." Head of School John Warren said, "It was an exciting game from the first tip-off to the last layup. Holderness played their hearts out but it just wasn't enough against this great team."

Congratulations to Coach Lubick and the boys' basketball team on their second consecutive NEPSAC Class C Championship!
