The Beaver boys' varsity tennis team won the NEPSAC Class C championship last
weekend, beating Rivers School (4-3) and Wooster (7-0). This caps an undefeated
season of 12-0.
BCDS boys' tennis coach Pauri Pandian reported on the
NEPSAC competition:
Saturday 5/16: After a first round bye in the NEPSAC
tournament, boys' tennis defeated Rivers 4-3 in a nail-biter held at St.
Sebastian's School. Senior captain Max Rodman and Pierre Planche won their match
at 1st Doubles 8-3, but 2nd and 3rd Doubles dropped their matches, 6-8, and 8-9
respectively to give the point to Rivers. The boys turned it, winning at 1st,
3rd, 4th, and 5th singles. Lukas Mead gave Beaver it's first point, followed
quickly by Pierre Planche and Kris Bronner -- who was seeing his first singles
action this year. Max Rodman and senior captain Erik Tobias lost their singles
matches to tie the score at 3-3. Henry Moorhead was the only player left on
court, having split his first two sets. Knowing that the victory would depend on
his match, Moorhead rose to the occasion and prevailed 6-2 to give Beaver the
win that allowed the team to advance to the finals of the NEPSAC tournament.
Sunday 5/17: Boys' tennis defeated the Wooster School 7-0 to win the
NEPSAC tournament. Pierre Planche and Max Rodman at 1st Doubles, and Erik Tobias
and Colin Read at 3rd Doubles won their matches 8-0 to give Beaver the doubles
point. Pierre Planche and Lukas Mead made quick work of their opponents in
singles to put Beaver up 3-0, and Erik Tobias won his match at 5th Singles to
clinch the championship for Beaver. Rodman, Kris Bronner, and Colin Read (in his
first singles action of the season) all finished soon after, giving BCDS a clean
sweep.
BCDS
Athletic Director Sherry Levin commented, "We are thrilled with the success that
the boys' varsity tennis team has had this season. The entire BCDS community is
proud of their accomplishments. Winning the EIL Championship as well as a Class
C NEPSAC Championship is a difficult task-- to do it with an undefeated season
is remarkable and a credit to their hard work and determination. Congratulations
to all the student-athletes and Pauri."
