Both players went undefeated in the regular season and in the tournament play of their respective IAAM conferences.

And both did so without losing a single set.

Roland Park junior Lindsay Katz and Friends senior Caroline Capute may toil their trades in different conferences, but both strive for perfection.
And both achieved it, with Katz and Capute winning their No. 1 singles tennis titles at McDonogh on Monday.

Katz came in as the No. 1 seed in the A Conference post-season individual playoff tournament, and she lived up to that billing.

Katz, a Roland Park junior, earned straight-set wins to claim her first championship, and went undefeated during the regular season without losing a single set.

Katz defeated No. 2 seed, Erica Choo of Bryn Mawr, who is a personal friend, by 6-2, 6-1 in the finals.

Katz had reached the finals each of the past two years, falling both times to Bryn Mawr??s Annie Wu.

Katz is just as cool and calm off the court as she is on it.

??It??s nice. I really don??t get nervous," Katz said following her victory. "I just get more excited. But it is nice to come off a winner.?

The third time was the charm for Roland Park's Lindsay Katz (above), who completed her season unbeaten by winning the IAAM A Conference tennis title during her third appearance in the championship match.

Capute was also the No. 1 seed, but in the B Conference.

Capute breezed through the tournament, winning in the quarters and semis by identical 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Capute won her title bout by default after her rival was forced to withdraw due to injury.

During the season, however, Capute had gone unbeaten. She capped off a brilliant career, in fact, by having gone unbeaten over four seasons, ending her reign as queen of the courts with a spotless 33-0 record.

Caroline Capute (above) of Friends School, winner of the IAAM B Conference tennis title last weekend, never will know what it feels like to lose a high school match. She finished at 33-0 over four seasons.

"Sometimes, we held Caroline out if we had an easy opponent to give others a chance," said her coach, Bob Campbell. "She would have even more wins if we didn't do that. Plus, she defeated every A Conference opponent she faced each year as well.?
