Ocean/Monmouth High School Challenger League Golf Outing Fundraiser was a great success!

The Ocean/Monmouth High School Challenger League along with the Ocean County Council PTA, held a Golf Outing Fundraiser on Monday, July 14th at the Woodlake Country Club in Lakewood, New Jersey. Proceeds from the event will go directly to the Ocean/Monmouth High School Challenger League, which is a new program set to begin in September of 2008.  This program will enable children with special needs to participate in competitive sports and in addition give them the opportunity to represent their schools much like their typical peers do.  It also gives kids who are already enrolled in typical sports the chance to participate as buddies and mentors.

With forty five golfers, lots of volunteers and beautiful weather, the golf outing turned out to be a fun day for all.  The day began with registration where each participant was given a complimentary hand towel, donated by Dorothy Scott of Dasco Designs.  After the players were registered they sat down for a delicious lunch buffet.  The “Shotgun Start” was at 1:30pm and the twosomes, threesomes and foursomes drove off in their golf carts to begin their competitive challenges.   Hole 17 was a “Hole in One” competition and of course what golf outing would be complete without your “Mulligans” aka, “free shots” which could be purchased for a small fee.  After the golfers completed their 18 holes, they sat down for a hot buffet dinner while Dennis Filippone, event Chairman announced the winners who were awarded trophies and prizes.  Dale Orovsky’s Team was awarded a complimentary foursome to Woodlake Country Club for having the winning score of 60. Dennis Filippone’s Team won the second place award. Best overall score went to Chris Orovsky who also had the closest to the Pin #4 with 3’7” in the Special Hole Contests.  Second closest to the line #3 was Ron Beuacqua with 14’. Longest drive for a male participant went to Rich Soldo, owner of Sundaes Ice-cream Shops, and longest drive for a female participant went to Alyse Casale.

Thank you to all who participated and to all the volunteers who donated so much of their time.  A special thanks to the Woodlake Country Club and their Pro Shop for helping us host this wonderful event.
