St. John's heavyweight Kevin McReynolds left Washington DC feeling the weight of his school on his shoulders, as he was the school's lone representative.

To bring on even more pressure, the first-year wrestler was set to face No. 4-seeded Joe Ditrolio of Malvern Prep in the first round.

"I knew what I had to do and had been training for this moment the whole season," McReynolds said.

McReynolds wrestled the best match of his life, beating Ditrolio 4-2 in the first round for perhaps the biggest upsets of the tournament.

"It felt incredible," McReynolds said. "I put myself on the map for wrestling and established myself as a respected wrestler."

McReynolds beat his next opponent, Hunter Lee, 3-2, to advance to the quarterfinals. Once there, he got disqualified against John Collins of of Roxbury Latin.

Teammate James Wenzalff didn't make the trip to Bethlehem, Pa., with McReynolds because of a concussion that had been lingering since the St. Albans touranment.
