Ryken Opens WCAC with a win
On this past Tuesday the St. Mary's Ryken Knights opened their conference schedule on the road, visiting the Knight of Bishop O'Connell. The game would start back and fourth as O'Connell would get out to a one goal lead. Ryken would quickly answer back with their first goal from Brian Frank. The game would continue this way until midway through the second quarter where St. Mary's would score three staight off of face off wins by Connor Cook. This would give the Knights of St. Mary's Ryken the lead, while O'Connell would try to answer back the Ryken defense would hold strong off of some big saves by goalie Mason Cook. This lead would hold for the rest of the half and would be too much for Bishop O'Connell to surpass. Ryken opened up strong in the third to extend their lead and shut out O'Connell in this quarter. Bishop O'Connell would score two goals late to make the final 13-6 in favor of St. Mary's Ryken. Leading the Knights in scoring would be junior Brian Frank who would end the day with 3 goals and 2 assists. Senior Addison Goodley would also have a strong performance with 4 goals and 1 assit. Sophomore Matt Boutin would also have a hat trick on the day where Connor Cook would add three assists to his totals. Sophomores Austin Spaulding would also net two goals and Jared Baranowski would sink in one. Senior Mason Cook remained solid in goal making 7 saves and only giving up 4 goals. The man down unit for the Knights remained unblemished as they shut down the EMO of O'Connell being a perfect 5-5 on the day.
