Throughout the league, there was never any doubt as to the talent of B.J. Williams.

Yesterday, on center stage, the senior guard stepped up and showed that talent, with a solid all-around performance that helped Seton Keough (15-1, 6-0) defeat rival St. Frances, 62-40, in the biggest game of the regular season in the IAAM.

Williams scored 13 points, dished out seven assists, made two steals, played a steady floor game and played tough defense, drawing  the unenviable assignment of marking Shatyra Hawkes (last week’s Athlete of the Week), possibly the best scoring guard in the  A Conference this season.

Williams is one of the senior leaders on a Keough team that has its sights set on nothing short of the A Conference title this season, after falling short to St. Frances in last year’s semi-finals.

With fellow guard Katelyn Fischer out sick, Williams and company had to shoulder move of the backcourt responsibility. Even though Hawkes scored 18, it was not as much of a factor as her recent offensive exploits, as the Gators were able to build an early lead, and then extend it.

For Coach Jackie Boswell, whatever points Williams produced would be a bonus; her role would be to control the ball, break the press and distribute to open teammates.

Williams executed that role and led her team to arguably its biggest win in recent memory.
