The west Baltimore school defeated McDonogh School, 61-43, in an IAAM A Conference semifinal game Friday afternoon. Senior guard B.J. Williams scored a game-high 14 points for Seton Keough (26-3), and senior guard Arrika Ullman added 13.
Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. at Villa Julie College, the Gators will meet five-time defending champ and No. 2 St. Frances Academy for the title. St. Frances advanced to its sixth straight final with a 55-44 decision over Archbishop Spalding in the other semifinal Friday.
The Gators defeated McDonogh, 71-46 during the regular season, but the Eagles were up for the rematch. The Eagles, who reached last year's title game, got within 31-27 midway in the third quarter on a basket by Ali Brennan.
Williams responded for the Gators, scoring six in a 10-3 run that pushed their lead to 41-30. She scored all 14 of her points over the final 16 minutes.
"The score doesn't reflect the quality of the game," said McDonogh coach Tom Gizzi, who received 13 points from Annie Politsch. "We had our opportunites, but B.J. stepped up and took the game over."
Seton Keough will go for its first IAAM title since 2000 Sunday against the Panthers, who dropped a 62-40 decision to the Gators in east Baltimore in early January. The Gators have lost their past three final appearances, including a 42-31 decision to the Panthers in 2006 at Villa Julie.
