rmink@digitalsports.comSherwood Coach Billy Goodman couldn’t remember much of what happened in his team’s regional final win over Wootton. Perhaps it’s because the Warriors have had to travel nearly the toughest road thinkable.
Sherwood knocked off another Montgomery power Thursday, topping division-winner Wootton, 5-2. The Warriors have beaten Richard Montgomery, third-seeded Quince Orchard and now second-seeded
Wootton.
The reason why Sherwood had to face so many tough teams is that it fell just outside a top-four seeding and randomly drew the No. 11 seed. All three games were meant to be on the road but the first-round game was at Sherwood because of weather complications.
“I know he got the W and that was good enough for me,” Goodman said.
Sherwood advances to the regional final, where it will face Gaithersburg, whom the Warriors lost to, 3-0, on May 1. The Warriors are looking to make the state tournament again after reaching the state finals last year.
Sherwood freshman William Bouey started for the Warriors. Sherwood never really had to make him worry too much as the Warriors went up 5-0 in the fifth inning. Wootton scored twice in the sixth.
“Down the stretch I think we’re playing a little better,” Goodman said. “We’re not booting the ball around and the pitching has settled a little bit. Knock on wood that continues.”
