Sherwood’s potent offense had been held down for the first half. There was no stopping it after that.

After scoring just two goals in the first half, Sherwood exploded with four goals at the start of the third quarter and kept going, beating the Winston Churchill Bulldogs, 11-7, Friday night.

Junior Kevin Laskin scored three huge goals in the third quarter, senior Kyle Johnson notched three goals and one assist and freshman goalie Connor Welch saved eight of the fifteen shots on goal.

Sherwood is now 7-1 with its only loss coming against Whitman in the Warriors’ second game of the season. The Warriors have scored 115 goals this season, an average of more than 14 per game.

“We went up and down the field very quickly and aggressively,” Warriors Coach Chris Saputo said. “We know we wanted the ball at all times and the longer we did it the more successful we played.”

Churchill (5-3) took a 3-2 lead into the second half and Saputo keyed on getting his team to maintain more possession.

The Warriors executed in the third quarter, scoring four goals in under three minutes to take a quick 6-3 lead. Laskin scored three of the four goals.

The Bulldogs came back in the fourth quarter to make the score 7-6, but Sherwood scored four more goals in the final quarter for the win.

Churchill senior Griffin Farha saved eight of the nineteen shots on goals while seniors Matt Banks and Parker Middel both scored two goals.

“We just didn’t bring out A-game,” Bulldogs Coach Jeff Fritz said.
