SOUTHMONT BOYS WIN CONFERENCE

The first day of October proved to be a good one for the Southmont Mounties' boys' cross country team, which claimed the 2009 conference title by a single point.

The conference meet was held on the South cross country course with Frankfort (59), Danville (74), Crawfordsville (96), Lebanon (122), Webo (153), Tri-West (155) and Northmont (208), finishing respectively in the team competition.

Southmont's boys finished as follows: 6. 18:20 Davis; 8. 18:39 Ruiz; 11. 19:48 Tyler Johnson; 16. 19:12 Kyle Burger; 17. 19:17 Ethan Miller; 18. 19:21 James McCarthy; 22. 19:39 Cole Wills.

A strategy developed by running coach Carlile and head coach Walters was a big part of the teams' success. They ran as a pack up until the the 1400-1500m area and then broke loose to chase down opposing runners. As a result, the Mounties were able to collectively work their way to victory.

"I am really excited to earn the conference title as a senior with my team," James said. "This is the way I want to continue to go out. Regionals is our main goal."

Southmont will run against Rockville and Covington on Oct. 6 and again at sectionals.

Good job guys!
