Southport placed last in the Conference Indiana meet on Oct 7. The team’s top four runners didn’t run the meet. Therefore the team only ran six runners. The last four runners for Southport were the last four of the meet.

Senior Lance Nelson was out with a cold after getting to compete for the first time in county four days earlier. Team mates seniors Tim Mosier and John Cary and junior Jack Thompson were also out because of injury or illness.

“It’s hard to compete without your first unit,” said coach Mr. Dennis Bruce. “They needed resting time and I’m hoping they are back by the sectional meet. This is the most challenges I’ve ever had on a team with key runners.”

Yet, this has given other runners a chance to get varsity experience. According to Bruce, the bad luck from this year will strengthen next year’s team. The team is keeping a positive attitude for the sectional and regional meet.

The Cardinals will run at the sectional meet at Ben Davis on Oct. 13.
