From coach Artie Spruill:
I run a program through the Mckim Center of Baltimore City, working with Dwight Warren. Our program is ran through Baltimore City, and called Coast 2 Coast Lacrosse.
The Coast to Coast Lacrosse program was developed to mentor minority girls through lacrosse as well as to promote academic excellence.
Coast 2 Coast is placing emphasis on the importance of education by striving to help young girls to maintain good grades as well as learning good study habits.
Our objective is to create a safe environment for young girls to learn a new sport while creating an opportunity for them to receive a higher education.
We are providing structure to girls through the sport of lacrosse who live in underprivileged areas. We want to encourage teamwork, support social skills, and build leadership skills.
Our program hopes to address the issue of diversity in the sport of lacrosse by teaching correct lacrosse technique and skills to young females who would not be introduced to the sport.
We will create the opportunity to expose these young women to the game of lacrosse by taking them to various events where they are able to compete at a high level.
Most of these young girls are unable to afford to participate in these activities without some type of economic support. Our program plans to ease this burden by covering many of the costs.
We also want to be mentors to girls to show them leadership and determination to achieve their goals to become a successful young women by creating opportunities for them to explore endless possibilities.
Coast 2 Coast Lacrosse would like to see an increase of number of minority girls attending college. Our efforts support the push of minority girls in sports among a wide range of universities.
We take into account the success for our program by how many of our girls get accepted to colleges, the roles they take on in their community as well as how they grow as individuals.
We want to see an improvement in attitude, self image and social skills among the girls and their peers. Our formula for success is to provide "Structure, Discipline and Love."
The hope of the program is to expose, grow, and develop the sport in communities different from the affluent culture that typically characterizes lacrosse.
We are looking for help with exposure in promoting what we are doing. We have placed our schedule and information on Digitalsports to allow girls to get involved in what we have to offer.
