by Aaron Grayagray@digitalsports.comSenior Matt Lamon scored four goals and dished out two assists to lead the St. Mary’s
High School boys lacrosse team to a 17-6 victory over visiting Archbishop
Spalding in both teams' first MIAA A Conference game of the season Friday.
"We’re playing together as a team and it’s really exciting
to be a part of this right now," said Saints coach Matt Hogan, whose team
improved to 10-0 overall, 1-0 in the conference.
The fact that St. Mary’s started off the A Conference schedule
with a win against its archrival didn’t mean that much to Hogan.
"It was just another game and we have plenty more that will
count the same," he said.
Junior Peter Athens added three goals and an assist for the
Saints, who opened a 13-0 lead.
St. Mary's had 10 different goal scorers. Among them were seniors Matt Bell and Pat Egan, who notched two goals each.
Senior goalkeepers Peter Stewart (three saves) and Weston Beard (five saves) paced the Saints' defensive effort.
Junior attacker Poiter scored three goals for Spalding -- all in the second half. The Cavaliers won the faceoff battle, 11-9.
