Brewer Middle School "B" baseball team looked strong in first outing
vs. Mattanawcook.
Cadin got the start on the mound for the first game of the
season and pitched a solid 5 innings having command of the strike zone for the Brewer Middle
School "B" baseball team. Mattanawcook
jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but Brewer battled back to take a 7-3 lead
with two innings to go. Good offensive production and solid defense was a
key for the Brewer Witches. It was a whole team effort with all 18
players reached base via a base hit or a walk. Gehrig led the way with
two singles. Josh, Ian, Sam, Brian, Cadin, Andrew, Matt, Levi, and John each
had a single a piece. Chase, Josh, Stephen, Sam, Preston,
Matt, John, Vincent, Jacob, Dylan and Garrett helped out with all drawing
walks. Brewer did an outstanding job on the bases stealing 11 bases and
not getting caught once. Andrew and Chase each pitched great in an inning
of relief. A few errors and good hits from the Mattanawcook team allowed
them to take a 10 to 8 lead going into the bottom of the 7th inning, but Brewer
did not quit. They were able to earn one run back but were unsuccessful
in tying the game. Brewer had a great first game and is looking forward
to improving their skills and getting better from game to game.
