At this rate, they are bound to capture a nickname. You can call them the walking wounded, or the Kiddie Corps, just as long as you call them winners. The Western gymnastics team opened its season without the services of its two most experienced performers. It mattered little as the Panthers defeated Noblesville Monday night, 93.15 to 90.35.

Seniors Amanda Hudson and NikkI McCracken are both recovering from injury. That made Western very inexperienced heading into the meet. Still, the Panthers turned in a performance on the bar that was more than a full point better than Noblesville and carried them to the victory.  That effort was led by an individual winning score of 8.05 by freshman Corinna Cottingham. Cottingham also won the vault competition and finished second in the floor exercise.

After the meet, Coach Margie lea spoke with Hoosier Authority about her young team. Her comments are in the video player on this page.
