Staff Report

Losses in two high profile games dimmed an otherwise fine night for MIC teams in week two action. For the second week in a row, Cathedral knocked off a top rated MIC squad. This time the Irish built a 35-24 lead over Warren Central and then withstood a furious Warrior rally to escape with a 35-32 victory. The game ended when Warren Central stalled at the Cathedral 30 yard line in the closing seconds. Ben Davis continued its struggles in marquis games. The Giants fell 7-6 to Penn in that annual showdown

Four other conference teams picked up victories versus non-conference opposition. The most impressive came from defending state champion Center Grove who dominated Pike 24-7. In two games the Trojan defense has allowed just seven points to Conference Indiana foes. Carmel bounced back with a 42-7 shellacking of Lebanon. North Central gave notice they are headed in the right direction. The Panthers downed Lawrence Central 16-14 giving Keith Shelton his first victory as head man at the school. Finally, Lawrence North rebounded from a poor offensive performance in week one by splattering Louisville Trinity 31-14.

Terre Haute North took the early lead in the conference race. The Patriots downed city rival South 30-28 in the first conference tilt of the year. The victory moves North to 2-0 on the campaign.

The league season will begin in earnest next Friday. Ben Davis will visit North Central while Warren Central travels to Lawrence North. The premiere game of the night will be in Carmel. It is a rematch of last season’s state title game as Center Grove will come calling on the Greyhounds. Both Terre Haute schools will face outside competition
