CATHOLIC DEFENSE PUTS CLAMPS ON BETH TFILOH, 4-1; CUBS TAKE OVER FIRST PLACE IN "C" LACROSSE RACE

The Catholic defense was suffocating in yesterday's C Conference lacrosse game at Herring Run Park, holding Beth Tfiloh to only one goal - and none in the second half - as the Cubs took a 4-1 win and moved into first place in the league standings. Catholic stands as the lone unbeaten team in the C, at 7-0, and handed Beth Tfiloh (7-1) its first loss.

Defense was certainly the name of the game in this contest, as both D's were tough to score on. The host Cubs grabbed a 2-1 lead by the end of the opening half, and would go on to make it stand by game's end. They added a pair of insurance goals in the second half, while holding the Warriors scoreless.

Senior Klaudia Furman scored two goals, the only player to do so. Caitlin Lawrence and Stephanie Parker scored the other Catholic goals, and Parker had the lone assist. Stephanie Lawrence came away with nine saves in goal.

Senior Arielle Vogelstein managed the only Warrior goal. Elizabeth Hoffman recorded 11 saves.

Catholic is right back at it today, and again at home, hosting Baltimore Lutheran. The Saints are 7-1, now tied for second with Beth Tfiloh, and a Lutheran win today would really scramble the race. Beth Tfiloh faces a brutal stretch of four straight games versus its nearest rivals. The Warriors host Lutheran on Thursday, and then face Catholic and Lutheran back-to-back again next week.
