CUBS EDGE WARRIORS, 11-9, IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

All three conferences in the IAAM lacrosse league finished with one perfect team. Earlier in the week, McDonogh finished at 12-0 in the A and Garrison Forest at 13-0 in the B.  Catholic matched its unbeaten "sisters" yesterday with an 11-9 win over Beth Tfiloh, at Herring Run Park, making the Cubs the last part of the trifecta with a perfect 12-0 mark in the C Conference.

This game was a much different one than when the two teams met just a week and half ago in Pikesville. That was a dual defensive battle, won by Catholic, 4-1.  This time it was more open and offensive, as the teams exceeded that point total in the first half alone, with Catholic up 5-2.  Beth Tfiloh actually won the second half, 7-6, but not enough to make up the deficit.

Seniors Stephanie Parker (4g) and Klaudia Furman (3g) led the Cub attack with seven goals between them, and freshman Sara Thompson added two scores. Caitlin Lawrence had 11 saves in goal.  Catholic hosts Elizabeth Seton on Thursday in a non-league tune-up for next week's playoffs.

Michelle Safferman scored three goals and Arielle Vogelstein and Leah Greenwald added two each for BT. Safferman and Vogelstein also had one assist each. Elizabeth Hoffman finished with eight saves. The Warriors (7-3) are at Baltimore Lutheran (9-2) today and at Key on Friday.  They could finish tied for second with Lutheran if they can win both games, and then the tie-breaker or coin toss would take it from there.

Based on their run so far, another C team is going to have to come up with a super game to derail the Cubs in their quest for the C championship.
