Thomas Jefferson moved to the Liberty district in 2005 and in its first three match-ups against W.T. Woodson, the Colonials were 0-3 allowing 48.3 points per game.

Not a whole lot changed Friday night as the Cavaliers racked up 438 yards of total offense in a 57-20 rout of the Colonials.

W.T. Woodson scored a touchdown on all seven of its offensive possessions and added a special teams scored when senior Max Waizenegger took a first-quarter kickoff back 88 yards to the end zone. Waizenegger also hauled in two receiving touchdowns from junior quarterback Connor Reilly of 33 and 22 yards and returned an interception 47 yards.

Reilly, a junior transfer from Clarksville, Tenn., was efficient all night. He went 7-of-9 passing for 138 yards and two touchdowns and also scored twice on the ground from 5 and 9 yards out.

“He is getting better every week,” W.T. Woodson Coach Trey Taylor said. “He is new and still learning the offense. He made a couple audible calls tonight that were really good decisions. I have no complaints.”

Junior James Johnson paced the Cavaliers on the ground with 95 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Junior Gabe Thomas added rushing touchdowns of 35 and 6 yards, respectively.

“I thought our offense played well in terms of not making a lot of mistakes,” Taylor said. “The schedule gets tougher and tougher each week, so we are going to need to keep tightening things down if we want to make a run at the end.”

Thomas Jefferson was lead by senior quarterback Ben Daly both on the ground and through the air. Daly threw for a 125 yards with two scores and rushed for 61 yards. He connected with Daniel Barnes from 44 yards out in the first quarter and later hit junior Sy Rashid for a 5-yard score.

Colonials senior Josh Yoon added a 34-yard touchdown run on his way to 44 yards rushing.

W.T. Woodson moves on to host South Lakes next week; Thomas Jefferson is on the road at Madison.
