Rich May scored four times, Matt Burke scored three times, Mike Poiter and Andrew Scalley contributed two each in goals and assists, Tyler Powell made 14 saves, and Matt King won 15 of 22 faceoffs as Archbishop Spalding ended a three-game losing streak with Friday night's come-from-behind, 14-6 upset victory over league rival and returinng Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Associaton A Conference runner-up Boys' Larin.
Twin brothers, Kevin and Brian Cooper each contributed a goal and an assist, and Jordan Fortman added an assist for the Cavaliers, who improved to 1-2 in the league, and, 5-3 overall after posting victories in their first five games.
Down, 2-1, after the first quarter, and, 4-3, at halftime, the Cavaliers exploaded for 11 goals in the second half, out-scoring the Lakers, 4-0, in the third quarter for a 7-4 lead entering the fourth.
Cavaliers' coach Zach Burke, in his first season, credited Alex Caruso for his defense.
"At halftime, I told the kids that we were still in it, and I just told them to stay disciplined and to believe, and they just rolled with it," said the Cavaliers' first-year coach, Zach Burke, who captained a St. Mary's squad that went unbeaten in 1996.
The Cavaliers had lost three straight games to Glenelg of Howard County, as well as league rivals St. Mary's and St. Paul's.
