Greenwood
and Mooresville advanced to second round sectional action while four other
Mid-State teams saw their seasons end this week. One of those, Plainfield, fell in heartbreaking fashion.
Greenwood
was the executioner for conference rival Whiteland at Perry Meridian. The
Woodmen downed the Warriors in three games Tuesday evening. The first game was
a 25-21 battle, but Greenwood
eventually proved dominant, winning the last two games 25-9 and 25-17. Also at
Perry, Franklin
fell to the host, and powerful, Falcons Thursday evening in three games 25-21,
25-15, and 25-11.
Mid-State schools split in two classic five game matches at
the Terre Haute
site. Mooresville downed Terre Haute North 19-25, 25-21, 12-25, 25-19, 15-10. Plainfield was not as
fortunate, dropping a gut wrenching decision to Northview. The Quakers fell
25-17, 15-25, 25-23, 23-25, 12-15. Count that up folks and you will find it is
a five point difference after five games and nearly two hours of heated
competitio..
Decatur Central had the unenviable task of facing #2 ranked Avon at Brownsburg’s sectional. The Hawks proved no match
for the tall and talented Orioles who prevailed in three games 25-5, 25-12, and
25-11. Martinsville drew a bye into the
semi-finals at Terre Haute.
The Artesians are one of the favorites at that site.
