- The first week of hardwood action saw mixed reviews for Mid State teams. One thing, however, is for certain. Things are looking up in the camp of the Whiteland Warriors. Whiteland won two games last week. First, the Warriors downed Indian Creek on Wednesday evening in a barnburner 56-54. Then they dismantled Greenfield on Friday night 51-34.

Just as certain, practice will be rather intense this week in Franklin. The Grizzly Cubs started the season by dropping two decisions to quality opponents. Wednesday, they dropped a 65-56 verdict to Center Grove and then lost to Southport Saturday night 57-39.

Elsewhere, Plainfield split a pair of games over the weekend. The Quakers crushed traditional opening foe Cascade 84-59, but then lost a close game to Avon 66-60. Mooresville gave a good showing against perennial power Anderson but fell 61-54. Decatur Central downed Southport 62-50.

Action picks up this week as conference play begins Friday night. Three games are on the slate. Decatur Central will visit Franklin while Decatur Central travels to Martinsville. Plainfield will complete the first night of league action by invading Whiteland.
