Team Objective: Coach Perry Sauers and Coach Bill Kreitzer of Wilde Lake High School in Howard County Maryland are hoping to be competitive, have a winning season and make a decent run at the Maryland State Playoffs this season. "If we play up to our potential ,we think we can be respectable  in the county and put ourselves in a very good position to make a good run at the State playoffs" said Coach Sauers.

Although our team is young and we only have two returning Seniors in Adam Baxley who will catch, pitch and play the infield and Alex Kempler who will play outfield and fill in at 1st base we feel we can be competitive.

One of our strengths is our team speed. We look to be very fast on the bases. We will be looking to Junior Eric Oler, Sophomore’s Joe Kelly, Anthony Scafone and Freshmen Devon McNeel to be aggressive on the bases. We expect these players to be able to get us into scoring position when we need them to. We have some very smart base runners on this team.

Our best defensive infield player is Junior Shortstop Steven Perdigao. Steven is a seasoned and experienced player and has a sound glove and very good hands at that position. If you hit the ball in his direction there is a good chance he will make the play and throw you out.

Our best defensive outfielder is Anthony Scafone. This kid has very good speed and tracks the ball well. He's a very good hitter at the plate and can move around the bases when he gets on. Look for Anthony to lead off for us a lot this year. He takes the game very serious and our players can learn a lot from him and his approach to the game. He is a true leader.

Our best hitter is Sophomore Joe Kelly. This kid is very intense, focused and has a good eye at the plate. Not much gets by him. He can hit whatever you throw at him, he uses the whole field and has the power to go deep. Joe will be our number 3 guy in our batting line up this year.

Our best pitcher is Sophomore Mike Bucci. Mike is a lefty, has good stuff on the mound and is very smart when it comes to facing batters. He’s a tough kid and baseball smart. He comes ready to play every day and is a very competitive player.

Other Pitchers include, John Palasits (Junior)  who will also see duty at first base for the Wilde Cats.

Other outfielders include, (Junior) Wes Morgan This kid hits for power and will hit in the number four spot. (Junior) Jay Turner who will also catch, (Junior) and Assistant Captain Jack May and (Junior) Jeremy McClayton who is the fastest of this bunch.

Other Players not mentioned include Sophomore Matt Holdefer. Matt can play almost any position for us. He is another baseball smart kid and is very competitive. It doesn’t seem to matter to him where you play him he always eager to please. I think he just enjoys being in the game that much. There is also Corey Lyman a Junior who will see time behind the plate and DH for the Wilde Cats.

Then there is Freshman Devon McNeel. A nice surprise to the coaching staff. When Coach Kreitzer and I saw Devon at our first tryout this kid looked sharp. You could tell he was finely tuned ,compared to his peers, so we asked him to continue to work out with us. During one of our inner squad games Devon launched a 78 mph  fastball over our baseball containers into the woods and our team exploded, jumping on him at home plate. I think at that point he knew he had a good chance of making the Varsity Squad. Look for him to do well and impact our team early.
