Palestine put an end to an impressive run by Mt. Vernon and in the process won
a sectional title. The Dragons defeated the Marauders 2-1 in overtime Saturday
afternoon for the tourney title. In reaching the finals, Mt. Vernon had
defeated Warren central 2-1 on penalty kicks and Greenfield-Central 3-2.
Two other
HHC squads won sectional crowns. Yorktown Liberty Christian 7-0 for the title
at Anderson. This came after the Tigers had downed Anderson Highland 4-2 in the
prelims. Rushville also is headed to the regional round. The Lions bettered
conference foe Shelbyville 4-2 in the championship match at Rushville.
Yorktown
will now face New Haven in the opening round of the Blackford Regional.
Meanwhile, the road has to come to an end for one of the other two HHC teams.
New Palestine and Rushville square off in the first game of the regional hosted
by the Lions. Roncalli and Richmond are in the other half of the bracket.
