Things started off a little shaky for the Knights, who started the game receiving the ball on the opening kickoff. After three straight penalty flags on the first three plays of the game, Anthony Kersey broke open a long run to put Catholic on the four yard line. The next play saw the beginning of the scoring, as Kyle Bolin (#4) passed to Casey Nash(#87) in the end zone for the touchdown. The points after was converted on a run by Bolin as he picked up a big block from James Maddox (#15), making the score 8-0. Bondurant tried to get things going with a big run after they got the ball, but the next play didn’t go quite as designed. The Braves quarterback attempted a pass that was intercepted by the Knights Nick Nash (#24), and he returned the ball to about the 20. Bolin’s next play from scrimmage was a touchdown pass to Alex Nash (#32), and the two point conversion was run in by Maddox.. With roughly two minutes to go in the first quarter, LC is up 16-0.
Bondurant finally got on the board on their next possession. With two big running plays, the Braves found the end zone to get within ten points, 16-6. With the ensuing kickoff, the Knights start out on their own 40, and Bolin finds Maddox on a short pass. Mr. Maddox then outran the Braves defense to the end zone for a 60 yard touchdown pass. After a penalty on the point after try, Bolin passes to Alex Nash (#32) in the end zone for the conversion. Your score going into the second quarter Knights 24, Braves 6.
With about four minutes to go in the first half, LC is facing 4th down and 8 yards to go on their own 35 yard line. Quarterback Kyle Bolin takes the snap and moves to his right, looking for an open receiver. The Braves defense has them covered, but they weren’t expecting a QB run. Bolin finds his way to the right sideline, and sprints towards the end zone. 4th and 8 turns into a 65 yard touchdown run by Bolin, and Maddox converts the points after for a 32-6 lead at the half.
The Braves are set to receive the kickoff to start the second half, but they can’t hold on to the ball. Alex Buckles (#70) comes up with the big play on the fumble recovery, and two plays later Kersey runs us into the red zone to about the 15. Shortly after, Maddox makes his second touchdown reception, but Bondurant denies the extra points. Score: 38-6
With about two minutes to go in the third, Catholic has worked its way down field to about the fifteen yard line. Bolin takes the snap, rolls out to his left, and spots his tight end running with him step for step. Bolin passes to #85 Chris Noll on the one yard line, and Noll plows through two Brave defenders to the end zone for his first career receiving touchdown. After converting the points after, Catholic leads 46-6.
In the fourth quarter, Bondurant found the end zone again to shorten the wide gap. After converting the two points, the Braves close the score to 46-14, and attempt an onside kick. As the ball rolls through the first line of the “Hands Team”, Anthony Kersey scoops it up on the right side, and swiftly breaks for the left side of the field. The Braves can’t keep up with him, and he turns the onside kick into a touchdown for a 52-14 lead. However, the Braves would score last in the game. On the ensuing point after attempt, LC fumbles the ball and Bondurant picks it up and runs the length of the field to score the two points.
