Lexington Catholic High School hosted the Republic Bank Bluegrass Bowl on August 29th, 2009 which featured four outstanding high school programs from Kentucky and included a full slate of Middle School games featuring teams from across the state.
In a continuation of a tradition started last year, the 2009 Bluegrass Bowl included a full session of Middle School games which showcased some of Kentucky’s best next generation football players.
In the 1st middle school game, the Lexington Christian Acadamy Eagles took on the Pulaski Southern Warriors in an 8th grade match up.

The 2nd game featured the Lexington Catholic Knights against the Lone Oak Purple Flash in a 7th grade game.

The 3rd game featured an 8th grade match up between last years KYMSFA Champion Bowling Green Purples and the Graves County Eagles. This game also featured the 2009 FBU All-American Bowl East 7th Grade MVP Tyler Jopes from Bowling Green Junior High. Mr. Jopes did not disappoint by being selected as the Defensive MVP of the game.

The last and featured middle school game included the Lexington Catholic 8th grade team against Lone Oak in a classic match up that was reminiscent of the 2007 high school state championship and featured rising stars from both sides of the Bluegrass state including FBU East All-Americans Josh Mesmer and Noah Mitchell from Lexington Catholic. Both Lexington Catholic players lived up to their prior recognition by being selected as the Defensive and Offensive MVPs of the featured game.
