A new coach took over this year. Also a new player, a good player, came over from Roosevelt. Both Head Coach George Weeks and senior Iwalani Rodrigues were obviously positive additions to an already sound program as the Kalani Lady Falcons win the OIA Red Championship over undefeated Radford 35-27.

A lively crowd filled Mckinley’s Student Council Gymnasium to see Rodrigues and company challenge Lady Ram center Tanitra Byrd.

“That was hard,” said Lady Falcon forward Rhianna Farm.

But the Falcon defense did enough to limit Byrd to 4 points. In fact no Radford player scored in double digits. Marsheen Dupont scored 6 and Byrd and Chelsea-Ann Villanueva each had 4 points.

Rodrigues led the Falcons with 12 points and quality ball handling. Ashlyn Onaga added 9 points.

Kalani will get one of the top seed in next week’s HHSAA State Tournament. Radford will have to play in the opening round on Tuesday.
