Jamie Smith scored 26 points and registered 13 rebounds as Iolani defeated Aiea 59-48 in a opening round game of the girls division one state basketball tournament at Kaimuki High School Gymnasium.
Aiea had no answer to slowing down Smith inside the paint. Iolani, with Smith in the line-up, raced out to a 17-2 lead with 2:40 left in the first quarter and never looked back. The Raiders scored 22 points in the first quarter and Smith was responsible for ten of those points along with adding four rebounds.
The Raiders dominated in every major category (points, field goal percentage, free throws made, rebounds, assists, steals) and saw its lead expand to as much as 24 points early in the fourth quarter.
Iolani will advance to tomorrow's elite eight round and face OIA Champion and third seed Kalani. Aiea will face Farrington in consolation bracket play tomorrow afternoon.
