Stevie Austin was a highlight reel for specatators in the gym and at home as the Menehune defeated the Sabers 65-42 in an opening round game of the boys division one state basketball tournament at McKinley Gym.
Austin, a 5'9" senior point guard, scored a game high 25 points and collected eight rebounds and five steals in just over three quarters of playing time.
Breaking down the numbers -- Austin scored nine points and racked up four rebounds in the first quarter alone. In the second half, Austin scored 14 points and added four more rebounds and three steals. For the game, he connected on 9-of-15 field goals, 2-of-4 3pt field goals and 5-of-7 free throws.
Campbell could not find enough offense to match Austin's efforts. The Sabers were outscored in each quarter of the game.
Junior Center Eddie Gaines came off the Campbell bench in the second half with the Sabers trailing by ten points (32-22) and scored six points and contributed nine rebounds.
Moanalua will face top seed Iolani in the quarterfinal round. Campbell will face Kalaheo in a consolation bracket game.
