A NEWCOMER NO LONGER, EASTERN TECH'S DUSTIN PEDDICORD IS TITLE-HUNGRY

The Mavericks' senior never wrestled prior to high school, yet placed fourth at states as a junior.

MILESTONE MAN: Despite being only a fourth-year wrestler, Eastern Tech's 130-pound senior, Dustin Peddicord (left) placed fourth at last year's Class 2A-1A state tournament and is approaching his 100th career victory.
Although just a fourth-year wrestler, Eastern Tech 130-pounder Dustin Peddicord is a returning Class 2A-1A North Region titlist who is on the verge of earning his 100th career victory.

Peddicord, who, last year, was third in Baltimore County's tournament and fourth at Class 2A-1A states, has a 96-38 career record and looks to achieve the 100-win milestone with a title in the county tournament two weeks from now.

A B-average student, Peddicord, 17, also is an accomplished golfer, having won a regional title in that sport this past fall.

"I am most likely going to stick to golf in college. That, or baseball," said Peddicord, who was a pitcher and right fielder on the Mavericks' Class 2A state title-winning baseball team last spring.

As a left-handed pitcher, Peddicord went 6-0 on the mound, and, as the leadoff batter, hit .352.

For now, however, Peddicord will focus on adding to this year's record of 23-2 on the mat as he gears up for the county, region and state tournaments.

"I've had no junior league experience, since I first started wrestling as a freshman," Peddicord said. "My goal this year is to achieve my 100th win, and then to be in the state finals."
