McDonogh's Ben Levin (bottom) takes down wrestling rivals during the season for that sport...
...and pursues a cure for cancer by competing in marathons during the offseason as part of a fundraising effort.
McDonogh wrestler Ben Levin, of Reisterstown, has raised $12,000 so far toward the treatment of breast cancer, the bulk of which is the result of having completed last month's Country Music Marathon in three hours, 41 seconds.
Levin, a senior who won this past season's 130-pound, private schools state title and who is bound for the Naval Academy's Prep School, is raising the funds for breast cancer, in general, and for Lena Woody and Patty Bakewell, in particular. The two women are the cancer-stricken mothers, respectively, of Levin's McDonogh wrestling teammate, Albert Woody, and his Eagles' assistant coach, Joe Bakewell.
Levin, who ran the race while wearing a T-shirt with their names scribbled on it in pink and black marker.
