Defending MIAA AConference volleyball champion Loyola Blakefield swept the Boys' Latin, 3-0, in the opening match of the year for both teams, on Wednesday at Boys Latin.  The Dons were led by Ben Pasquarella and Zach Daily, as they won three straight games, 25-10, 25-8, and 25-18.  The Lakers ralliied at the end of game three with five straight points, but it was too little, and way too late, as Coach Tim Baier's Dons got off on the right foot.

Pasquarella had 33 assists, and Daily had 14 kills.

"Its good to get the first game out of the way," said Baier.  "We played well as a team."

The Dons have won the A Conference championship in three of the last four seasons and they have been in the title game in five of the last six.  Boys' Latin competes in the B Conference, where it is a regular playoff squad.

"We made good passes from the back row to the hitters," said Pasquarella.  "When we can set up the outside, middle and opposite players on the front line, we'll score a lot of points."

"Our seniors played well," said Daily.   "We had good passing today which set up some great outside hits."
