The Saints Peter & Paul's ice hockey team opened big Monday night with, a 4-1, non-conference win over St. Stephens/St. Agnes School.
Ian MacKenzie started the scoring for the Sabres in the first period off an assist from Billy McGovern. The SSSA defense, however, limited the Sabres to just that one goal through two periods, despite being outshot 15-5.
The Sabres came back to score again, however, in the third period when Ethan Wagner got another point on the board from Kris Wilcoxen- a pair the Saints would face again later in the game.
Three minutes later SSSA got its first and only goal, but, just 18 seconds later, Wilcoxen fed another puck to Wagner, who sent it sailing into the next for the Sabres third goal.
Finally, Wilcoxen capped off the scoring with an unassisted goal of his own, near the end of the third period, to seal the victory.
In total, Saints Peter & Paul outshot St. Stephens/St. Agnes 39-17.
The Sabres' Conner Effinger and Ben Sturmer split the goaltending duties for their squad.
