Archbishop Spalding's 119-pound Brady Gaynor won a key match by avenging an earlier loss, 2-1, over Mount St. Joseph's Andy Biedlingmeyer in a 28-27 Maryland Interscholasic Athletic Association A Conference dual meet victory by the homestanding, Cavaliers, ranked sixth in the DigitalSports Baltimore Area Top 20, over the Gaels, ranked No. 1 in both the Maryland State Wrestling Association Top 10 and the DigitalSports Top 20.

In other close, or key bouts won by Cavaliers' wrestlers, Will Switzer (125) edged Graceson Pastirik, 5-4, Charlie Lynch (130) downed Gino Pollock, 8-3, Conner Lane (140) nipped Peter Doyle, 6-5, Kvaunte Smith (171) overcame Matt Mullett, 9-3, and Jordan Cohill (160) edged Tyler Tippett, 3-2.

In addition, the Cavaliers' Sean Reedy (215) scored a first-period fall, and Jeff Yeatman (152) ran away with a 17-3 major decision over his opponent.

"We worked hard as a team the last couple of days and we were ready tonight to wrestle, and to us, it didn't matter who it was," said Yeatman, a senior captain, of the Cavaliers' first-ever victory over the Gaels' program. "During warmups, we got really fired up for this match."

The final bout of the night, however, was that of Cohill's over Tippett, which turned a 27-25 deficit into the win.

The Gaels received pins from private schools state chamion, Danny Orem (145), Tyler Goodwin (112) and Austin Bohn (189), with a 7-1 decision by Kevin Johnson (103) over the Cavaliers' Cole Gallagher, an 11-4 decision by Jake Hullsey (135), and an 11-10 overtime win by David Smylie (285).

The Gaels were without four key starters to injury or illness, and another, Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament champion and private schools state runner-up, Benny Schaufele, missed the 135-pound weight limit.

The others missing were National Preps runner-up Frankie Goodwin (119), MIAA and private schools state champs Bobby Bowman (160-171), Karl Green (285) and Tyler Rill (145).
