After knocking off one of the Washington metro area's top teams last week, Cardinal Gibbons boys' basketball team tried to make it two in a row Tuesday evening. Trailing at halftime, the Crusaders battled back against Riverdale Baptist before falling, 48-43.

Javorn Farrell scored a game-high 15 points for Riverdale Baptist from Prince George's County, ranked No. 10 by the Washington Post, and Daniel Woods added 14. Senior Pat Dieringer and junior Dylon Cormier each had 11 points for Gibbons (8-6 overall).

The Crusaders knocked off Friendly, ranked No. 16 in the Washington area, to win the O. Ray Mullis Classic crown. The Wilkens Avenue school fell behind 27-17 at halftime Tuesday evening before getting back into contention.

Gibbons dive into Baltimore Catholic League/MIAA A Conference play starting Friday with a home date with Towson Catholic. Sunday, the Crusaders travel to No. 4 Calvert Hall College.

Riverdale Baptist will return to Baltimore next week, playing at the Basketball Academy at Morgan State University. Riverdale Baptist plays Dunbar Jan. 16 followed with No. 5 City College the following evening.
