Mount de Sales Coach Ritch Taylor is glad his players went to Church yesterday. As in Hannah Church. The senior attacker scored a game-high five goals to lead the Sailors to a 17-7 lacrosse win over neighborhood rival Catonsville.

It was a non-league game for both, pitting the IAAM A Conference versus Baltimore County. The two Catonsville-area schools are fiercely competitive in all sports, and Thursday’s game played at de Sales was no exception.

Mount de Sales (3-8, 6-8) is currently in 10th place in the 13-team A Conference, as the IAAM regular season winds down. Taylor’s team will look to tune-up for the upcoming play-offs, hoping to play spoiler. Yesterday, the Sailors raced to a 10-4 lead at the half and added three more goals to the lead in the final half.

In addition to Church and her five goals, Amy Stryjewski and Cara Facchina added three each. Katie Stryjewski and Lauren Johnson were two-goal scorers. Corrie Dubyoski added one goal and one assist.

Ali Konstantas recorded nine saves and Morgan Kavanaugh had five, as the pair split time in goal.

Becca Reymann led the Comets with four goals and Abby Sneeringer added three. The Comets were missing their top player, Jessica Nonn, who had to sit out after receiving two yellow cards in the previous game.

Having grown up in the same neighborhood, many of the players know each other and some are good friends off the field. For example, Church from Mount de Sales and Sneeringer from Catonsville battled it out on the field, and then spent the evening together attending a boy's lacrosse game. They are friends, as well as cousins. Reymann, a senior at Catonsville, went to Mount de Sales as a freeshman. Many of the players know each other, but it's all business when out on the field.

After taking care of a Baltimore County foe, Mount de Sales faces two more tough non-league games next week versus Harford and Howard County teams. The Sailors visit C. Milton Wright on Monday and then host Atholton on Wednesday.
