We are months removed from the frigid temperatures and atmosphere we associate with ice hockey, but in just under a month the stars from the Shore Conference will get together for what has become one of the most exciting and anticipated all-star games around.
At 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10 at the Red Bank Armory, Monmouth County will battle Ocean County in the 11th Annual Jim Dowd Shore High School All-Star Game. Each year proceeds from the game go to benefit a local charity or family in need, and this year Dowd's Shoot for the Stars Foundation will donate all proceeds to the Marks Family Fund. This past Mother's Day, Randy Marks of Spring Lake passed away at the age of 40, leaving behind his wife, Susan, and six small children ranging in age from seven months to nine years.
Tickets will be $10 at the door and the first 400 fans will receive a free rally towel and other giveaways. There will also be a 50/50 raffle with prizes including a Jenkinson's Family Fun Pack and various signed NHL memorabilia. Additionally, there will be an auction for a 40-inch LCD TV. Special to this year's event, a limited amount of signed All-Jim-Dowd Team posters will be sold for $25.
Point Boro head coach Mike Ryan and his assistants, Mike Nevil and Sean Sanborn, will comprise the coaching staff for Ocean County while Rumson-Fair Haven bench boss Jerry St-Cyr and assistants John Soble and Kurt Bruckman will direct the Monmouth County All-Stars. The officials for the game will be Bill Bredin, Matt McNulty and Jim Carlucci. Monmouth County leads the all-time series 10-3 and has won the past six contests, including last year's 4-3 victory on a last-second goal by Red Bank Catholic's Kevin Pecca.
