Southern senior linebacker/running back Glenn Carson, one of the state's most highly recruited players, has verbally committed to Penn State.
"I was kind of sure about two or three weeks ago, but I wanted to see Boston College to make sure that Penn State was the right choice,'' Carson said. "Overall I just felt that Penn State was the better school for me and if I could be in the best place.
"It's just been going through my mind for a long time now, doing the pros and cons for a while. The visit was the deciding factor, everything went as good as I thought it would.''
Carson was being pursued by a host of schools including several Big East, Big Ten and Pac-10 programs. Now he can focus on his senior season, as the Rams are 2-0 and ranked No. 2 in the DigitalSports Top 10.
"I just have to do one last thing and let other coaches know and then the weight will really be lifted,'' Carson said.
A first-team DigitalSports Legends of the Fall selection as a junior, Carson is also one of the state's top wrestlers, but he said he did not discuss the future of his wrestling career with the Nittany Lions' coaching staff when he committed on Sunday. Carson had 19 scholarship offers and recently made his final visit, to Boston College this past weekend during Southern's bye week, before deciding to choose Penn State.
