Here’s a preview of the top teams in each
district.

CAPITAL
DISTRICT
ATLEE
2007 record:
9-1 Capital,
18-3
Coach: Bruce Lovelace
Key players: Jordan Roseboro, Jr., F; Kristin Lescalleet, Sr., F; Lindsey Booth, Jr., F
Outlook: The Raiders are loaded after taking a state tournament visit last season after upsetting Mills Godwin in the Central Region final. Roseboro and Lescalleet (University of Richmond) are bonafide Division I prospects. Booth is a potent scorer.

HANOVER
2007 record:
7-3
Capital, 11-5
Coach: Steve D’Adamo
Key
players:
Kathleen Russell, Sr., M
Outlook: The Raiders and L-D Confederates seem to have too much for the Hawks to fly over for the top two spots. Hanover will have to hold off a hungry Henrico team. Russell is a first-team all-Central Region candidate.

HENRICO
2007 record:
4-6 Capital, 6-10-1
Coach: Jeremy Seward, fourth season, 20-31-1
Key
players:
Allison Callahan, Sr., M; Mujinga Kapanga, Sr., F; Emily Zampetti, Sr., M; Latisha Ellerbe, Jr., D
Outlook: Click here for Henrico’s preview.

LEE-DAVIS
Coach: Brad Dalton, fifth season, 46-23-2
2007
record:
8-2 Capital, 12-7
Key players: Kimmy Cummings, Sr., F; Janie Evans, Jr., GK; Caitlin Kirkwood, Sr., M; Virginia Hendrick, Jr., M
Outlook: Click here for Lee-Davis’ preview.

CENTRAL
DISTRICT
COLONIAL HEIGHTS
2007 record:
12-2 Central, 14-4
Key player: Beth Ann Boyce, Sr., F; Julianne Sponsler, Jr.,
Outlook: The Colonials have potent scoring left. How well the defense performs and responses to new coaching will be big keys.

THOMAS DALE
2007 record:
13-1 Central, 17-3
Coach: John Kabler
Key players: Loren Favale, Sr., F; Carrie Jaeckle, Sr., M/F; Julie Robertson, Jr., F
Outlook: Field hockey success should translate to a district soccer crown as well. The Knights are loaded once again after falling in the Central Region semifinals last season.

COLONIAL DISTRICT
MAGGIE WALKER GS
2007
record:
4-2 Colonial, 9-8
Coach: Patty Glenn
Key
players:
April Price, Sr., F
Outlook: Field hockey success should help the Green Dragons to the upper echelon of the Colonial.

MILLS GODWIN
2007 record: 6-0 Colonial, 16-3
Coach: Rob White
Key players: Lindsey Rowe, Sr., GK; Anne Lumpkin, Jr., M; Annemarie Cole, Sr., M; Andrea Keller, Sr., D
Outlook: The Eagles reached the state semifinals last season and have enough to make it back again. Rowe is the best keeper in the state and one of the top in the nation. The Eagles have a rematch with Atlee Tuesday.

DOMINION
DISTRICT
CLOVER HILL
2007 record: 11-3 Dominion, 14-5
Coach: Shawn Martin
Outlook: The Cavaliers have a heavy tradition but lost a boatload from last season, including Grace Cuenin and Jessica Varela.

COSBY
2007 record: 5-8-1 Dominion, 6-9-1
Coach: Anne Canipe, first season
Key players: Becca Wann, So., F; Joy Grove, Fr., F; Alicia Cruz, Sr., M; Morgan Thompson, Sr., D
Outlook: Click here for Cosby’s preview.

JAMES
RIVER
2007 record:
10-2 Dominion, 13-4
Coach: Sarah Snell, third season
Key players: Aubrie Ewell, Jr., F; Erin Liberator, Sr., F; Jenna Taylor, Jr., M; Hannah Schul, Sr., D
Outlook: Click here for James River’s preview.

MIDLOTHIAN
2007 record:
7-3-3 Dominion, 10-3-3
Coach: Cammie Ward, third season, 26-16-6
Key players: Erin Layne, So., M; Rachel Creamer, So., D; Haley Myer, So., M; Sam Tillar, Sr., D; Alicia Cella, Jr., GK
Outlook: The Trojans are loaded with nine starters returning, including several all-district performers like Layne, Creamer and Myer. Each are only sophomores. Tillar will try to provide leadership for a fairly young roster. But most of the players have been through a varsity season before, so a district crown in a tough district is not farfetched.

MONACAN
2007 record:
3-7-4 Dominion, 3-8-4
Coach: Anne Rieser, third season, 18-22-7
Key players: Hallie Rogers, Jr., M; Emily Finestone, Sr., D; Lindsey Hill, Sr., M; Amanda Paris, Jr., D; Laura Davis, Jr., D
Outlook: A strong defense and 10 returning starters puts Monacan squarely in the mix. In a tough district, the Chiefs could be a pleasant surprise. Look out.
