Pardue Scores Lone Goal

Kelsey Pardue scored the game-winning goal for the Hermitage Panthers, as they went on to defeat the Henrico Warriors 1-0 in Wednesday night’s game.

Both teams came out ready to play as they each had several scoring opportunities in the first half.

Hermitage had the best chances.

Senior midfielder Saxon Henderson was able to get behind Henrico’s defense several times but was denied by the Warriors  sophomore goalkeeper Kabemba Kapanga, who made two outstanding saves in the first half to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard.

Henrico also created a few chances on goal.

Senior captain Emily Zampetti was solid in the midfield for the Warriors providing many through balls to her forwards Teresa Danso-Danquah and Mujinga Kapanga, who made some excellent runs up top but were unable to find the back of the net as the game remained tied 0-0 going into halftime.

The goal came midway into the second half, when Pardue received the ball just inside the Warriors’ territory and managed to penetrate Henrico’s defense by beating all of the defenders off the dribble and placing the shot into the right corner of the net.

The Panthers had several other chances on goal to put the Warriors away in the second half but could not finish their opportunities.

Henrico pushed more numbers forward late in the game as they became desperate to score a goal.

But the Warriors offense struggled mostly in part due to the Panthers’ junior sweeper Melissa Davis, who shut down any kind of attack the Warriors created.

Hermitage 0 1 – 1
