Jake Lowery, 2008

Spring Sensations

Published: 06/29/2008

Jake Lowery had a great season behind the plate and for that he is a Spring Sensation.
Jake Lowery is not your average catcher.

Not only is he one of the best at getting behind the plate to call a game, block pitches and throw out potential base stealers.

But the Cosby first-team all-state selection can also hit and run the base path.

Including the playoffs Lowery batted .413 with seven homers and 26 RBI.

When he got on base it was unlikely that he would take a courtesy runner. Faster than most catchers, Lowery is also part of the Titans indoor track team.

His leadership helped guide Cosby to an undefeated record in the the Dominion District. After beating James River twice in the regular season the Titans would lose to the eventual back-to-back state champion Rapids in the district final and the Central Region championship.

Lowery's high school career came to a bitter end in the state Group AAA quarterfinals when Cosby fell to Colonial Forge in a rain-shortened game.

His catching days will continue, though, as the first-team all-region and all-district selection heads to James Madison next year.
