Kenny Fryman, Josh Wells, Steven Fogleman, Kartlon Davis and many other program-building players are gone from Hanover.

So the Hawks may fly low in 2009, right?

Cue Lee Corso. Not so fast, my friend.

Hanover returns eight starters each on the offensive and defensive side of the ball from the Central Region, Division 5 finalist.

“We lost a lot of good guys,” Just said. “We’re returning a lot of good guys as well.”

The skill positions are loaded. Backs Chris Lee and Deane Cheatham and receivers Danny Trsic and Jeremy Yorke were keys offensively.

Defensively, promising sophomore CB Xavier Crocker, safety Patrick Roche and linebackers Marzae Brooks and Ohio commit Blake Jones are back.

The front lines have gotten varsity uniforms dirty, including DLs Aaron Phillips and Matt Pocta, OLs Kyle Williams and Alex Brown.

“We’re real excited about what we have there,” Just said.

A significant key to the season may be who replaces Wells at quarterback.

Three guys have a shot at the spot, junior lefty Trey Faison, who provides a quickness dimension, junior Jeff Zona and freshman Sam Rogers is turning heads.

Whoever takes the spot won’t have to do it alone with so many experienced and productive players returning.

“We have a lot of speed and strength,” Lee said. “Everybody needs to be prepared for us.”

Big game: vs. Patrick Henry, Sept. 11, 7 p.m. The Patriots and Hawks are developing a pretty good rivalry. A win here will set the tone.
