BLOG

Stephen Lewis back again, J.R. Tucker leads Chesterfield Community 21-13 after one period. The winner will meet Henrico in the semifinals of the Henrico Holiday Hoops Tournament, Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Tucker burned up the nets to achieve a 16-3 lead. But the Eagles behind Fleetwood Hodges. He had nine points, all on 3-pointers, in the first quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

Jared Gregory opens the secoring, a 3-pointer of course for Tucker. Reserve Johnny Scott answers for CC. 24-15 Tucker as both teams have some bench players in.

Matt Campfield drills a 3-pointer, three different players have hit one, my intern Brittney Grove tells me. So good to have her here helping.

Tre Caiby too big inside, 29-19 Tucker. CC right back, Daqwain Caraballo answers with a pull-up jumper, lead is at nine for Tucker.

Tucker up 39-25 now on a shot off the window from Darrin James. 1:53 left in the half. The Tigers are shooting the ball extremely well from outside.

James again as Campfield finds him with a nasty no-look. I saw Tucker against JM earlier this year and thought they impressed.

They look good again, 41-26 1:15 to go. Caiby gets into the act from the outside, 45-28 Tucker at the break.

THIRD QUARTER

Period is starting now, leading scorers from the first half: Tre Caiby adnd Zach Desgain for nine each for Tucker. Richard Smith has 11 points for Chesterfield Community, Fleetwood Hodges put in nine points.

Caraballo knocks in a floater to force a Tucker timeout. 47-32 lead for the Tigers.

Smith is getting it done again inside for CC. Another bucket, but the Eagles still trail by 17. Smith hits again inside, he has 17 points already. Tucker up 53-40 now as CC is making a run.

Caraballo knocks in three, CC still down 17 though, because James just finished a nifty spin move. Both teams scoring at will.

Tucker will go in with a 60-47 lead into the fourth period.

FOURTH QUARTER

Montre Carr kicks off the scoring for the fourth period with a layup. He’s been getting blocked all night, I know that felt good for him.

Michael Mey scores for Tucker, he’s off the injured list now. A big boost for the Tigers. 64-48 as JRT looks to pull away.

76-51 now, sorry, I was getting the details for the 3-point shootout squared away. It will be Wednesday at 10 a.m.

The reserves are playing the game out. It will be Tucker and Henrico in the 5:30 semifinal. CC will face Clover Hill in Tuesday’s consolation, 2:30 game.

This should be a tremendous matchup. The second half of the tournament will start soon, Freeman and Lee-Davis first, followed by Hermitage and Meadowbrook.

Tucker wins 76-51.
