Patrice
Johnson, 5’10 Guard and Senior Captain for the H.D. Woodson Girls Varsity
Basketball team is a Finalist in a list of three for the prestigious honor of
Gatorade Player of the Year.
Johnson is being recruited by Miami(FL), Illinois,
Middle Tennessee St., Coppin State, James Madison, Towson, Florida. Her season
average for 25 games is 347 pts (13.9ppg), 221 rebounds (8.8pg), 105 steals (
4.04spg), 75 assists (2.96apg). An impressive accomplishment.
Patrice Johnson has amassed these numbers against the Top competition in the
country. H.D. Woodson has played in three different regions against teams from
10 different states including D.C., NY, FL, HI, CA, VA, TN, GA, PA, MD. Patrice
received the scholar-athlete MVP award at the Nike Rose Classic in Long Island,
New York.
In
addition, Patrice has played against 4 Nationally Ranked Teams (Currently- Long
Beach Poly-CA, Notre Dame Academy-VA, Murry Bergtraum-NY, and St. Michael's
Academy, NY) and led H.D. Woodson to a National Ranking this season as high as
8 in the Sports Illustrated poll.
Johnson
was also a participant at the Prestigious Nike Tournament of Champions in
Phoenix, Arizona, the top tournament in the country for girls high school
basketball, competing in the Black Division, the highest division in the
tournament. She has also been voted the All- DCIAA League East Divison Player
of the Year and named DCIAA Player of the Year(DCIAA). She is a three-time
DCIAA Champion.
As
impressive as her athletic accomplishments are her academic accomplishments.
Patrice maintained a 4.15 GPA this quarter while traveling to Long
Island, NY, Phoenix, AZ, Atlanta, GA, and the Bronx, NY. She is the epitome of
what a student athlete is, demonstrating her ability to balance school and
athletics. Additionally, her service to the community is noteworthy and she is
a role model for her younger teammates who hope to follow in her footsteps on
and off the court.
Currently H.D. Woodson’s record is 24-5 and 10-0 during league play. The H.D.
Woodson Lady Warriors are also on a 38-game winning streak vs. DCIAA League
Opponents. Patrice was a starting player in every one of those victories which
date back to her sophomore year at H.D. Woodson.

Woodson claimed the 2008 DCIAA Championship and is looking forward to heading
to City Title Game vs. The Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Champion,
the Bishop McNamara Mustangs, on Tuesday, March 4th at the Verizon Center.
