Boys’ Soccer: Stone Bridge 1, Fairfax 0

By Sam Dowell
Fairfax High School Senior

Stone Bridge came out of the gates strong Tuesday night, determined to show its skill and stop a team that has notched 10 goals against it in its previous two encounters. Bulldog goalkeeper Matt Miscione and the entire Stone Bridge defense proved worthy of the task as they shut out the Fairfax Rebels, 1-0.

The Rebels defense, anchored by goalie Sean Goudarzi, also did a stellar job for the first 65 minutes. Goudarzi made several top-class saves before Stone Bridge defenseman Chris Kamara put one through the net.

The Bulldogs’ size posed problems for the smaller Rebels, who had trouble winning anything in the air. Such a height advantage allowed Stone Bridge to win the through balls sent by the Rebels and be able to control ball possession within the midfield.

The Rebels did a have a few scoring chances — including one late in the game on a breakaway by freshman phenom Kevin Arraya — but he missed wide right with mere inches to spare on a shot that would have tied the game up.

With the victory, Stone Bridge stays undefeated at 2-0 and moves on to play Concorde District opponent Robinson; Fairfax falls even at 2-2 as it prepares to face McLean on Thursday.
