Annandale senior quarterback Cason Kynes was the king Friday night — literally.

Kynes was named Homecoming King at half time much to the delight of the Atoms’ fans and alumni in attendance to celebrate the 20th anniversary reunion of teams from 1967-68 and 1987-88.

After the final whistle Kynes celebrated with his team sporting his new crown after throwing for four touchdowns and running for another in a 42-19 win over visiting Lee. He finished 11-of-19 passing for 254 yards passing and also rushed for another 139 yards on 25 carries. Kynes never comes off the field during the game, serving as the Atoms’ quarterback, defensive back, punter and holder for extra points and field goals.

But if Kynes was King, then sophomore Melvin Robinson was most certainly a member of his court. Robinson was on the receiving end of two of Kynes’ touchdowns passes, totaling 115 yards on six receptions and scoring from 31 and 41 yards, respectively.

“Robinson is a major threat,” said Annandale Coach **** Adams, in his 19th season at the helm. “He forces your to play differently on defense. We have never had a kid like him.”

Junior wide receiver Rob Potts also caught a 66-yard touchdown on Annandale’s first play from scrimmage on his way to 115 yards on just two receptions.

Sophomore Jazmier Williams was one of the few bright spots for the Lancers. Williams got Lee on the board first with a 71-yard touchdown run on the second play of the game and finished with 23 carries for 203 yards. Junior Danny Taylor also scored twice for the Lancers on runs from the 10 and 1-yard lines.

Lee moves on to host Hayfield next week while Annandale will travel to face Lake Braddock.

“Our kids played really hard tonight and practiced hard all week,” Adams added. “We are excited. We just need to win these next three games to have a shot at getting in the playoffs.”
